Iggy and Loretta Lee
In the novel, Freak the Mighty, Iggy and Loretta Lee are minor characters. The story explained that Iggy had once served time in prison with Max's father so Kenny and Iggy had some background before Max had met the Lee's. Loretta, Iggy's wife had also known The Fair Gwen and Maxwell's mother too. Besides their outer personalities, a reader might interfere that they have other characteristics. For example, one could infer that Iggy is rather scared, and by this meaning, Iggy is scared of Kenny. The book states, "Iggy laughs real nervous" (Pg. 120). This can show clues to Iggy's struggle of remaining calm and not tensed even thouygh Kenny has almost no respect for Iggy and then tells him to shut up afterward. In addition, there is also Loretta who has more character traits than she actually shows, for example, Loretta is rather thoughtful. We can see this when the book says, "First thing she does is pull the gag off, and I take a deep breath that makes my lungs burn. 'It ain't right,' she whispers. 'Keeping your own son tied up, it ain't right'" (Pg. 126). This shows that Loretta is caring due to the fact that Loretta never had to go and attempt to save Maxwell from his father, in fact, Loretta Lee risked her life. Therefore, both Iggy and Loretta Lee have more traits than they actually show and might be different people than what the author directly tells us. |
