In the novel Freak the Mighty, I believe that the overall theme of this story is that one should not get judged by their outer appearance, also known as "don't judge a book by its cover." For example, evidence to back up this moral is when the book states, "That wears off though, and by the time we leave math..you can hear whispers in the hall. Like, hey, who's the midget? And there goes Mad Max; and, excuse me while I barf; and look what escaped from the freak show" (Philbrick #76). This is an excellent example of what the world may possibly think of Freak the Mighty just by looking and judging their outer appearance. Therefore, the novel Freak the Mighty teaches readers to not judge by looks, but what really matters, and THAT is why Freak the Mighty's them is to not judge a book by its cover.
